Everyone needs a hero. Luke was exactly what James needed. Technically, he rescued Luke from the elements. But they saved each other from lives searching for that one true mate. This series is so MAGNIFICENT because it is based on love, friendship and loyalty to pack. All the characters are well developed and have a great story surrounding them. I thought that this story was a FANTASTIC addition to an already OUTSTANDING series. I love how each book is a continuation and keeps moving forward without leaving anyone behind. I’m really in love with this series. It’s heartbreaking, beautiful, hopeful, and all the stories weave together to create a wonderful series. I especially love how a couple books, including this one, feature both a new couple and revisit a previous couple now that some time has passed.
In this story, the returning couple is Matt and Zack, who we met back in the 3rd book. Some time has passed since their book, and they are still very happy together. Even better, our new couple is James (who we met in the last book and is related to Ro from the series) and Luke, who is Adam’s brother! They finally find each other again. See how it’s all connected? Read this series in order, folks! P
My heart absolutely broke for Luke, with how he was treated by Tobias to Jeremy, how he didn’t know happiness or even what a bath was, to how afraid he was of James. (There is some violence and torture in here, be warned if that’s a trigger for you.) But James. Oh my heart eyes, James. Perfect alpha for Luke, he was patient, kind, caring, and sweet. They were just lovely, had great chemistry, and a wonderful HEA.
I’m still hoping for more of Byron and Jay from the last book, I want full details on their first heat spent together, to know how Jay has recovered and grown since his rescue, you name it.
This author is great at delivering on one of my favorite tropes - hurt omegas and the caring, strong alpha that saves them. I just adore this series and recommend it to all fans of werewolf mpreg readers.
The Alpha's heart is a more brutal look at the life of an omega in this world. Poor Luke, he had a rough life growing up, an uncertain future, sold to a cruel alpha. For triggers there is a brutal beating, threat of rape, imprisonment, and if those aren't bad enough, it's the mind set of Luke that is conditioned to accept it.
In so many ways Luke is innocent. He's this blank slate and everything is new. His life has changed and he has nothing to cling to, he's frightened and unsure. Of course he's going to revert back to what he knows in showing James his interest. The makeup - Even if wrong, was what he knew would signal attraction. Yet once more he's shown that's wrong, too. And while he leans on James simply because he is an alpha, James doesn't have the time for Luke. So Luke wanting to be with James was more out of desperation and the alpha pull. And that bothered me, too. Luke couldn't relate to James as a partner and that was what James wants. Luke is too innocent, too fragile, and new to the world James lives. He knows nothing of politics, heck, Luke can barely read. And frankly James doesn't have time to be with Luke. That was shown very vividly when James was out and about or locked in his study. So this 'budding' relationship between the two didn't work for me. James was settling for second best. Luke was so fearful and needy he's only relying on instinct. I mean who would want to be with the guy that sends you off to your worse nightmare? Sends off with empty promises? Doesn't fulfill those promises and regrets it but soldiers on because he has other things to do?
And that's the biggy for me James compartmentalizes Luke in his life and doesn't put him first. It's an uneven relationship and as the story ends, I wonder if Luke will ever step out from that house in the woods, want to experience more, and if James will be the alpha he needs. I skimmed so much of this story because I had hope things would improve for Luke. They never really do. Even his brother talks down to him. Picked up on the Unlimited Program - Dan's Wife
Ok the book was good but the great loving alpha will I did not thank so he used luke to get what he wanted and did not care who got hurt to win the war i can kind of understand that but then when they get luke back he all caring and will not let jeremy have him no matter what I'm sorry but no.
I absolutely love this series. Definitely one youll need to read in order to get the most out of it. I love the way James is presented as so patient and caring. And although it may not seem the bomd is there for a while it definitely shows up later. It was heartbreaking to watch Luke go through what Jeremy did to him and I couldn't only imagine the regret that James would feel at playing a part in it. can hope that later we hear more from this couple.
This is probably my favorite in this series, so far. I loved that the FW has been able to achieve their goal of restoring the correct leadership and order in much of the area these books are set in. I also loved that the usurpers who built their power on cruelty have begun to reap their own karma. And the best part is that the FW did it all by protecting the Pack Council and thereby gaining even more allies.
I was beginning to think James was not going to get his HEA, but along comes Adam’s brother Luke. I’ve loved this series from the first book and particularly liked the duo MCs featured in this book. We get to round out Matt and Zack’s story, including their growing family, but then we get James and Luke’s story. This may be a never-ending series with yet another territory having problems. I was horrified to see Frank’s terrible family rise up yet again with Jeremy’s birthday present. I’ve begun to tire a little bit of the infighting so if there is to be a sixth book I may wait a bit before picking it up.
