We currently have 2 Airedales, the most recent in a long line of Rescue pups. We adore these charmers, who are such independent, loopy thinking, wonderful creatures. Max IS an Airedale. The wisdom he imparts transcends mere doggie-hood (and I apologize to anyone who thinks I denigrate the canine species because I do not intend to)and instructs us all.
This book is a pure joy.
Max's story is dear to me because I have two Airedale Terriers, and the author captures the unique, energetic, playful personality of the breed. But Max's story is not just a bit of fluff Max's ideas about how to live well are very helpful to the "uprights," human beings who own them. I highly recommend the book for Airedale Terriers and their owners.
Every page of this book is a visual treat for people of all ages. Robin has done a fabulous job capturing the heart of Max and translating it into valuable life lessons. A great reminder for all of us and a wonderful gift for a new grad, a dog lover, someone facing a loss, or anyone needing encouragement. The ending is particularly touching.
Simple lessons for a well-lived life are shared with warmth and humor from a dog's perspective. Max's innocent and optimistic wisdom guides the reader through all the ups and downs of life with Max-imum joy and enthusiasm. Max's story covers a variety of themes including how to get through tough times, what it means to be family, the importance of forgiveness, trust and gratitude, and how to let go. I loved this enchanting, award-winning book. Any reader, dog lover or not, is sure to fall under its heart-warming and life-affirming spell from the very first Maxim.
Life to the Max is completely unique and for this alone it is laudable. At first glance it seems like a fun, entertaining read; a delightful picture book for adults. It certainly is all those marvellous things. But amazingly, it's also a powerful story about family, love and life.
I intended to read Life to the Max quietly on my own as a special treat. But when my six-year old daughter caught sight of it she asked me to read it to her at bedtime. We read it over several nights and it turned out to be a sublime experience for both of us.
My little girl would nod seriously and say "uh-huh, uh-huh" along with each spiritually enlightened Maxim in a curiously knowledgeable way! Sure enough, the Maxims really are truisms for a life well-lived. We laughed-out-loud together; giggled with delight - and yes, at one point I was moved to tears.
What a joy this book is. I hope children as well as adults have the opportunity to read its positive message. Life to the Max is a gift book in the very real sense of the word "gift"; a blessing for anyone of any age to receive.

If you own an Airedale or a rescue, you will love it. A very short book, but each page is packed with humor and sentiment. I read it once, then aloud to my hubby, who was instantly enchanted.
This was/is a heartwarming tale which I read in sections because not only did it make me laugh/smile it made me cry! I have a 9 yr/old Airedale named Buddy (my second Airedale) and he is just like Max! A lot of the adventures with Max are so much like Buddy's. There's a reason they're called the clown of dogdom! Once you've shared your life with one no other breed will do! Thank you Max and family for sharing your wonderful life and times!
